Steven Katz and his get out of jail free card.

Your get out of debt free card?

That is what Steven Katz of Tuscon, Arizona claimed in a post he made on Creditnet and of course his own message forum. His description isn't quite accurate for there is no such card. What he refers to is a new or seemingly new web site called FDCPA CASES.ORG which is a site where debt collectors can check up on people who have filed federal cases against debt collectors and their outcomes.

The purpose of this and the basis for their almost $1600 subscription fee is that by using their service debt collectors will be able to screen and cleanse their debtor lists of debtors who might well file a federal case on them for violations of FDCPA, FCRA or other causes.

Mr. Katz thereby claims that filing federal lawsuits on debt collectors for various violations somehow becomes a get out of debt free card. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth because it isn't free to start off with because the filing fee in federal court is $350.00 which hardly makes it free. Then there is the other hurdle which is a long way from being free as well is the immense difficulty of finding an attorney to do it for you or the time that is necessary to develop a case and learning how to properly prepare and present it in court. There are a great number of obstacles to getting the job done and none of them are free.

One of the greatest obstacles is learning how to do it yourself. One can find any number of message forums where they will talk about how to do it but will never actually teach you how to do it. One of the most important steps that is never discussed to any great extent if ever is the importance of learning both the rules of procedure and the rules of evidence. These are indespensible and are easily found on the internet by simply using Federal Rules of Procedure and Federal Rules of evidence as search terms.

Oh, I know what you mean about Dr Tax here. Does he really think lawsuits he talked about with his "Flyingifr Method" really do anything? Disputing, sure that works, while you cross your fingers for a non-verification, buy a lotto ticket as well. It can happen, but good luck. Throwing around frivolous lawsuits? I agree with everything you have to say on that matter. Great to give options that sound good in one sentence. Then, try and carry that out in principal.

Here's a hint people: as he says HIMSELF in this "method" description he was 6 (SIX) years out on his credit issues and he "turned it around" in 2. 6+2=8. Items fall off your credit report after 7 years. Wow, magic - Bad reports fall off, credit score rises! No muss, no fuss, no action required (there's the secret in this case).

Speaking of Katz, collections, and disputes, I have a story as well:

Ironically enough, Steve Katz put me in collections because of an unspoken agreement on payment he had with my fiancé for tax services. (Note, she's the daughter of a friend of his, which she never met personally). Well, that unspoken agreement didn't work for him anymore. I was completely unaware and removed from the situation (her fathers aquaitence, she could handle the tax forms and billing). Well, needless to say without one single phone call or attempt to interact with us, he put both of us in collections. Any statements he may have sent didn't seem to reach us as far as I know. Anyway, we paid the balance immediately and directly to him when he put both my fiancé and myself in collections. It didn't have to go any further and he could have been nice (and reasonable) enough to undo the collections. Instead the bad marks were left in with a note of "settled for less than full balance".

I'm sorry but we paid him in full for what he was owed, and directly to him (never involved the collection agency). That mark was completetly unreasonable.

After a nice push from her father to have Katz remove BOTH of use from collections (I mean there was no malace here or itent not to pay, and we paid promptly when we knew we were in collections), he removed her and left me in there. Of course he claimed he removed both of us. After several requests and pleas with him to remove me as well (not to mention several credit disputes, which he could have NOT verified) nothing changed and all requests and letters went unanswered and ignored. What did I ever do to this man? I've never even talked to him.

Nothing in his Flyingifr method helped me with that claim. Even nice, civil requests to remove the report went completely unanswered by him. This man is severely lacking in the customer service department and is rude. He told my fiancé "no chuppah, no schtuppa" because he "disapproved" of our living arrangement. THIS was our TAX GUY!! Not our father or close family friend. I can't understand his "mission for the credit impaired" and yet be so unambitious to do some good credit-related, first hand.

Well let's just say I followed his Flyingifr plan as he did, started at 6 years, and now that its a year and 2 months later, the claim is gone! I did it in 10 months less than he did! (For the slow, at 7 years, it fell off on its own).

Forget about him - smoke and mirrors and the almighty dollar bill is this man's friend.

Perhaps he's in China because he on the run or because everyone is on to him by now? Either way, perhaps the best place for him. I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him after my experiences. I might catch something from the doctor.

Do I sound bitter? Perhaps, but being treated as someone unimportant enough to not be dealt with directly or reponded to is an insult. This is not a big corporation, its one man. That, in itself is a pitty.
